Group 1

Using the Body to Heal Trauma(6 or 8 Weeks)

Tired of traditional talk therapy? Do you feel stuck and unable to find the roots of your pain? If you’re tired of dancing around your issues, we have a unique approach to help you get to the source.

This group focuses on education and skills to manage symptoms and begin to heal trauma.

Two licensed therapists (John Maxwell, LPCC, CCTP-II & Chelsea Meyer, LPCC) will create a safe container to begin to do this work. Best of all, this work will be done alongside those with similar journeys!

This group will cover several key topics:

  • Adult and Childhood Trauma

  • Trauma’s effects on the body and personality

  • Working with the nervous system to process, calm, and release symptoms

  • Receiving compassion and connection from others

This group is great for both those who suffer from trauma and those supporting others who have trauma.

Clinically, this group is focused on Somatic Experiencing with insights from Internal Family Systems and Hakomi.

This is an in-person group.

Why Group Therapy?

All trauma is relational. As Bonnie Badenoch writes, “Trauma may arise not primarily from the nature of events, but from who is with us before, during, and after…” Healing trauma must involve relationships.

Group therapy is extremely powerful because groups mimic our original natural social environments. This allows group therapy to both evoke our trauma and then provide a space for it to be healed in a way that individual therapy cannot.

Group therapy can help access the deeper areas of the brain where trauma resides (Gantt & Badenoch, 2013). Group also activates specific nerves in the body (“Social Engagement System”) which provide safety and calm when members share and receive compassion.
